Nadine has spent years travelling, staying and asking questions, so you don't have to.

There comes a point in life when you know what you want from travel.

You know the kind of hotel you want to stay in. You know that you would rather have an incredible meal somewhere special than eat in the same place every night. You want experiences that feel considered, interesting and a little bit out of the ordinary.

The problem isn't knowing what you want. It's finding someone who wants it too.

Perhaps your friends have different priorities. Perhaps your partner doesn't have the same appetite for travel. Perhaps your family holidays have become more about making everyone happy than doing the things you genuinely want to do.

And while you could compromise, you might have reached a stage in your life where you're not particularly interested in doing that anymore. You want the trip you actually want. But you don't necessarily want to experience it alone.

When the people around you don't want the same things

It's a strange position to find yourself in. You may have built a life where you have a wonderful group of friends, a successful career or business, a family you love and plenty of people around you. Yet when it comes to travel, you find yourself asking the same question: who would actually want to come with me?

Maybe you want to spend a week somewhere extraordinary, but your friends don't have the time. Maybe you want to go somewhere more adventurous, but your usual travel companions want to lie by the pool. Maybe the people around you're not necessarily in the same financial position, or don't prioritise travel in the same way.

You can compromise and choose something that works for everyone. You can invite people along and end up organising and funding the experience yourself. Or you can go alone. For some people, that's exactly what they want. But if one of the things you love about travel is sharing it with other people, there's another option.

What is curated luxury group travel?

Curated luxury group travel brings together a small group of people who are looking for a similar kind of experience. The destination is carefully chosen, but so are the people travelling with you.

That's an important distinction. This isn't a large group tour where you happen to be sharing a coach with thirty strangers. It's not a singles holiday, and it's not a networking event disguised as a trip.

You create a group of people who are broadly aligned in terms of where they're in life, what they enjoy, the kind of experiences they value and what they want from the journey. That doesn't mean everyone has to be the same. In fact, the differences are often what make the experience interesting. But there needs to be enough common ground for people to connect.

Why travelling with like minded people can change the experience

There's something about meeting people while you're away from your normal life that can make connection happen surprisingly quickly.

At home, we're surrounded by context. People know what we do, who we're married to, where we live, who our friends are and what we have achieved. When you meet someone while travelling, you don't necessarily have any of that. You're simply sharing an experience.

You're having dinner together. You're exploring somewhere new. You're laughing about something that happened that morning. The usual barriers can fall away.

And when the people you're travelling with are in a similar chapter of life, there can be an immediate sense of recognition. You don't need to explain why you want to travel this way. You don't need to apologise for wanting something special. You can just enjoy the experience together.

It's not about finding people exactly like you

Being like minded doesn't mean being identical. In fact, some of the best travel companions are people who see the world differently but share a similar curiosity about it.

You might have completely different careers, live in different countries and have very different lives at home. What connects you might simply be that you're all interested in experiencing something new, having good conversations and making the most of the opportunity to be somewhere extraordinary.

There can also be something liberating about meeting people who don't know your history. You're not arriving as someone's boss, someone's parent, someone's partner or the person who always organises everything. You're simply yourself.

The luxury isn't just where you stay

Luxury isn't simply about the quality of the hotel, the thread count or the price of the wine. It's about the experience of knowing you're in expert hands.

It's knowing that the journey has been thoughtfully designed, that the details have been considered and that the people around you're trusted. And when you're travelling as part of a carefully curated group, there's another layer to that luxury.

You don't have to compromise on the experience simply because you couldn't find someone to go with you. You don't have to persuade your friends to spend more than they're comfortable with. You don't have to organise everything yourself. And you don't have to choose between having the experience you really want and having people to share it with.

What makes a good luxury group holiday?

The group is arguably just as important as the destination. For us, there are a few things that make the difference.

The group needs to be small enough for genuine connection. You should have the opportunity to get to know everyone rather than simply becoming one person in a crowd.

There needs to be something meaningful that brings everyone together. That might be a shared stage of life, a desire for adventure, a particular interest or simply a sense that you're ready for something different.

The experience needs breathing space. Nobody wants to be on a group holiday where every minute is scheduled. There should be time to do things together and time to do your own thing.

And above all, the travel needs to be exceptional. Beautiful surroundings, thoughtful service, great food and experiences that you wouldn't necessarily be able to create for yourself.

You shouldn't have to compromise

You don't have to wait until you find a friend whose diary, budget, relationship, children, interests and appetite for travel all happen to align perfectly with yours. And you don't have to choose between travelling alone and compromising on the experience.

The right curated group can give you both. An exceptional journey and people you actually want to share it with. That can be particularly valuable when you're at a point in life where your circumstances have changed. Perhaps your children have grown up. Perhaps your career has changed. Perhaps you've simply realised that life is too short to keep waiting for everyone else's availability.

Travel can introduce you to your next circle

One of the most unexpected things about travelling with the right group is what happens after the trip. You might arrive thinking you're simply booking a holiday. You leave with new friends.

People who live in different places, work in different industries and have completely different lives, but who you connected with because you happened to meet at exactly the right moment. There's something about experiencing something extraordinary together that creates a shared history very quickly.

That's one of the reasons we believe so strongly in the power of curated travel at Travl.Love. We're not simply looking for beautiful places. We're looking at the whole experience, including who you might meet along the way.

That's the luxury of curated group travel. Not simply having somewhere beautiful to go. Having the right people to share it with.
